PEN AND INK STUDIES
I am thinking about getting back into pen and ink work. I started some of my first serious art pieces using pen and ink during law school because, I had paper and ink pens!! Anyway here are some examples of those pieces. (all images copyright C. Gregory Price 2008 or earlier)

SOME GREAT ART BOOKS!
Every Artist of course loves to find a good book on art whether it be a collection of works by a particular artist or school of art, or whether it be instructional. I have found and purchased several great books recently that figurative artists might enjoy.
"Classical Drawing Atelier" by Juliette Aristides "Watson-Guptill, November 2006
"Classical Painting Atelier" by Juliette Aristides "Watson-Guptill, 2008
(note: Author Juliette Aristides is a contemporary realist who runs a classical atelier at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, USA.)
These two books give a great intro to the history and background, as well as illustrative samples and study assignments surrounding the attelier method of learning to draw (and paint),.. specifically the figure. The Drawing book is probably more detailed as to the specific course of study used in the traditional 19th Century method that is currently in use in the modern Atelier study programs such as that provided by Aristedes and Mims, Collins, Shanks and others.
"Bridgeman's Life Drawing" by George Bridgeman, Dover Publications (June 1, 1971)
Bridgeman taught at the Art Students League in New York.
An execellent and very detailed book covering anatomy and drawing techniques of the human body as a whole and its various parts. Extremely well illustrated with significant explanations of the mechanics of the human body. See some of my student drawings from this book in later posts!!

HOW TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT
(Please see some of my work below)
Many people have inquired as to the process of commissioning a portrait by me. I generally prefer to start from an initial live session, but have created portraits from images provided by clients. The process takes anywhere from two weeks to two months depending on the subject matter, the medium in which the work is created and nature of and size of the surface upon which the rendering will be made. Framing is the responsibility of the client as well as the costs of shipping and insurance. Upon execution of the contract and the payment of the initial non-refundable fee, initial proof sketches will be delivered to the client. As well, images of the progress on the portrait will also be provided. The balance of the fee and any shipping and insurance costs are due upon notification to the client as to the completion of the portrait. A copy of the final image will be tendered with notification of completion. Prices vary based upon size, complexity, background, medium and surface materials. If you are interest, please contact me at cgplaw@hotmail.com.

MY FIRST INTEREST IN PORTRAITURE
<--John. This was done in acrylic in an attempt to be
a little looser and more impressionistic. I started looking at the face, not as lines, but as abstract blobs. This is the result. It was done ala prima with no intent to blend halftones to highlights or back into the darks. The only problem is that it really doesn't show a modeling of form until you step way back from the painting.(image (c) 2006 C. Gregory Price)
ARTISTS IN THE FOOTHILLS
Being a member of the Rome Art Coterie and on the Board of the Rome Area Council for the Arts, I thought that others might be interested in seeing some of the artists "up here in the foothills" of Northwest Georgia. Go to romeartcoterie.org
MY FIRST CONTE' DRAWING
^"Christopher" This is my son who is now a professional musician touring with the Ben Deignan Group. This was done with conte' crayon and white chalk with a small amount of sepia colored pencil. (done from life and photos more for the hands-(image (c) C.Gregory Price (2006).
FIRST ACRYLIC PAINTING
WELCOME
Hello:
Thanks for viewing this Blog. From time to time, I will make entries of events, facts, circumstances, creations etc. which I feel have an influence on my artistic perceptions and the manifestations of the same.
I have been creating artistically for most of my life, simply for the joy and pleasure of the same. I have not had much external input or critique other than occasional family members' observations. Hopefully, through this blog, I can receive constructive observations which will help my artistic skills improve. Keep checking in periodically to see what I put up. Thanks
